Fernando Alonso says Barcelona Grand Prix may be his final Formula 1 race

Fernando Alonso, the 44‑year‑old Spanish driver for Aston Martin, told the Barcelona‑Catalunya Grand Prix weekend that it could be his last appearance at the circuit. The race will leave the Formula 1 calendar after 2026, returning only on a rotational basis from 2028 onward. Alonso, who has contested 23 Grands Prix and 431 starts at Barcelona, said he will decide his future after the summer, noting the possibility of retirement or a move to another team.

Aston Martin has endured a difficult season, with Alonso scoring the team’s first point in Monaco. Speculation exists that Alonso could join Alpine – the team with which he won two world titles – under manager Flavio Briatore, though no decision has been made. For now, Alonso intends to enjoy the home race in front of Spanish fans while the final outcome of his Formula 1 career remains undecided.
