Fernando Alonso seeks $40 million‑plus contract extension with Aston Martin
Two‑time world champion Fernando Alonso, 45, is negotiating a new deal with Aston Martin as his current contract expires at the end of the 2026 season. Reports say he is asking for a salary of roughly 40 million euros (or dollars) per year, a rise of more than 30 % from his present earnings of about 30 million. The demand would place him among the highest‑paid drivers on the grid, behind Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton.
Aston Martin technical director Adrian Newey has voiced confidence that Alonso will remain with the team, stating, “I have full confidence that Fernando will be happy with us and that we will continue our partnership.” The team is also hopeful that a two‑year extension could keep him through 2028. Alonso has indicated that a competitive car from 2027 onward is a key condition for staying, emphasizing his belief that the project led by Newey will eventually deliver a front‑running package.
