Fernando Alonso suffers major floor damage at United States Grand Prix
Fernando Alonso experienced significant aerodynamic damage to his Aston Martin AMR26 during the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin. The incident occurred on the opening lap at Turn 11 when contact with Alex Albon’s Williams resulted in Albon’s front right tire striking the bargeboard and the left edge of Alonso’s floor.
The damage was severe, with Alonso reporting that half of the car's floor was missing. He noted that the loss of aerodynamic components cost him approximately half a second or more per lap. Despite the mechanical struggle and the car's tendency to pull to one side, Alonso continued racing to collect data, eventually finishing in 16th position.
Alonso expressed frustration, stating that the damage cost him a realistic opportunity to score points, as he had been running in 12th place despite the compromised vehicle.
