Fernando Alonso's F1 future hinges on upcoming regulation changes

Spanish driver Fernando Alonso, who turns 45 at the end of July, said his decision on whether to continue in Formula 1 after the 2026 season will be driven by the sport’s future technical rules rather than the competitiveness of his current Aston Martin car. He noted that the 2023‑24 Aston Martin package struggles with power‑unit constraints and that the team will debut a substantially updated chassis at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Alonso added that forthcoming rule changes – specifically the reduction of the 50/50 split between internal‑combustion engines and electric power – will be a decisive factor for his 2027 plans.
