Fernando Alonso remains uncertain about Formula 1 future beyond 2026

Fernando Alonso has remained non-committal regarding his future in Formula 1 beyond the 2026 season. Speaking in Madrid ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix, the 45-year-old driver indicated that a decision regarding 2027 will not be made soon, noting that he needs to understand how upcoming technical regulations will impact racing and driving enjoyment.

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali expressed a strong desire for Alonso to remain in the sport, stating, “I’m going to try to convince him to stay because, for me... he’s an incredible driver.” Domenicali highlighted Alonso's importance as a global ambassador for the sport, particularly in Spain.

While Alonso's current contract with Aston Martin expires at the end of 2026, the driver is also considering his broader career options. He has not ruled out a return to the World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2027 and has suggested he may transition into a different role within the sport or a team if he chooses not to continue racing. Aston Martin has indicated there is no immediate urgency to settle his long-term plans.
