Fernando Alonso's future at Aston Martin remains uncertain
Uncertainty surrounds the future of Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso as he considers his career path beyond the sport. Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack described the possibility of Alonso leaving the team as “dramatic,” noting that the veteran driver is weighing a potential return to the Endurance Championship.
While Aston Martin remains cautiously optimistic about retaining the two-time world champion for the 2027 season, the team has struggled with performance. FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem expressed a desire to prevent Alonso from leaving the sport due to technical or competitive difficulties, stating that a champion of his stature should decide when to retire on his own terms rather than being forced out by poor results.
However, these sentiments have met criticism from former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner. Steiner argued that no driver or team is entitled to a position in Formula 1 based on status, emphasizing that participation must be earned through performance and that teams should resolve their own challenges without FIA intervention.
