Fernando Aramayo criticizes use of indigenous groups by past Bolivian governments
Bolivian President of the Presidency, Fernando Aramayo, has criticized previous administrations for attempting to subordinate indigenous social organizations to serve as political supporters. Speaking during the granting of legal personality to the Unión del Consejo para el Desarrollo de los Ayllus en Paz (UCDAP), Aramayo stated that past governments sought to “subdue, condition, and use them as applauders for the government of the day” to create division. He emphasized that the current administration aims for a relationship based on mutual respect and transparency without interfering in natural authorities.
Aramayo also addressed the management of external multilateral credits, asserting that these funds must be directed toward investment projects rather than “political vanities” or state bureaucracy. He identified key priorities for these resources, including the construction and improvement of roads, irrigation systems, drinking water networks, health centers, and educational units. He noted that the access to new financing marks a stage of economic recovery and restored international credibility for Bolivia.
During the event, President Rodrigo Paz highlighted the capacity of the ayllus to resolve differences through dialogue and consensus. He announced that the Executive branch will manage resources both domestically and internationally to address regional needs, including the allocation of health sector positions.
