Fernando Botero exhibitions in Sicily see surge in visitors
A double exhibition dedicated to Colombian artist Fernando Botero has seen a significant surge in attendance in Sicily. Between August and September, 135,000 visitors attended the shows held at the Valle dei Templi in Agrigento and the Museo Riso in Palermo.
Due to this high turnout, the organizing company, Renaissance srl, and the Botero family are considering extending the exhibitions beyond their current closing date of October 31. The Agrigento exhibition, titled ‘Fernando Botero. L’incanto del Mito’, features 25 original works including sculptures, watercolors, and drawings from the Fernando Botero Zea Collection and the Botero Family Estate.
Nicola Barbatelli, the curator working alongside the artist's grandson Fernando Botero Quintana, noted that the attendance exceeded expectations and highlighted a deep cultural dialogue between contemporary art and Sicilian identity.
