Fernando Díaz de la Guardia returns to television after facial paralysis
Spanish television presenter Fernando Díaz de la Guardia has returned to broadcasting following a long period of rehabilitation. His absence from the screen began in early 2024 after he suffered facial paralysis caused by herpes zoster, a condition he attributes to high levels of stress.
During an appearance on the program ‘Fiesta’, Díaz de la Guardia discussed the challenges of returning to the spotlight while still managing some lingering effects of his condition. He expressed a desire to use his experience to inspire others and combat social stigmas regarding physical appearance. He noted that patients in the hospital encouraged him to share his story to help those who feel marginalized by being ‘different.’
Previously a presenter for ‘Cuatro al día’, Díaz de la Guardia is currently working with the Andalusian broadcaster Canal Sur, hosting the news program ‘Andalucía mediodía.’ He emphasized his goal of breaking the stereotype that television presenters must maintain a standard of physical perfection.
