Fernando Espinoza re-elected head of Argentine Federation of Municipalities
Fernando Espinoza, the mayor of La Matanza, has been re-elected as president of the Argentine Federation of Municipalities (FAM). During the assembly held in Buenos Aires, more than 500 mayors from across the country approved a document expressing unanimous concern regarding the social and economic situation in their respective cities.
The mayors requested an urgent meeting with President Javier Milei to demand a correction of the current economic course. The document warns of the negative impacts of national policies on employment, production, health, food security, education, and regional economies.
Specific demands include the restitution of educational funds, the reactivation of public works, and increased investment in health, security, and disability services. Espinoza stated that municipalities have become the “first barrier of containment” for populations facing deteriorating living conditions due to the current crisis.
