Fernando Garrido meets former ETA member responsible for 1986 attack

The television program ‘Salvados’ on laSexta facilitated a meeting between Fernando Garrido, a victim of a 1986 ETA attack, and Josemi Latasa, a former member of the terrorist organization responsible for the killings.

The 1986 attack targeted the vehicle of Rafael Garrido, the military governor of Guipúzcoa and father of Fernando. The explosion killed Rafael Garrido, his wife, and another son. Josemi Latasa, who participated in the attack by riding the motorcycle from which the bomb was placed, later left ETA, condemned the violence, and sent a letter of apology to the family.

The encounter, moderated by journalist Gonzo, focused on memory and the consequences of terrorism rather than forced reconciliation. Before the face-to-face meeting, both men were interviewed separately in a high-mountain setting to discuss their opposing perspectives on the event and its long-term impact on their lives.
