Fernando Gray files injunction against AySA privatization

Fernando Gray, the mayor of Esteban Echeverría, has filed a legal injunction against the privatization of Agua y Saneamientos Argentinos S.A. (AySA). The legal action comes as the bidding process for 90% of the company's shares is set to conclude on August 27.

Gray expressed significant concern regarding the terms of the bidding documents, specifically arguing that the proposed investment plan is insufficient to meet the needs of the growing metropolitan area. He noted that the current terms could allow a future concessionaire to postpone essential structural works for the first ten years.

Additionally, the mayor challenged the provisions regarding service interruptions. Under the current terms, the concessionaire could cut services for residential users after 60 days of non-payment and for non-residential users after 15 days. Gray has urged the provincial government to participate in the bidding process through Aguas Bonaerenses S.A. (ABSA) to protect the health and lives of millions of residents in Buenos Aires province.
