Fernando Mendoza makes NFL debut for Las Vegas Raiders

Las Vegas Raiders rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza made his NFL debut in Week 5 against the New England Patriots. Entering the game with approximately six minutes remaining while the Raiders trailed 45-17, Mendoza completed 6 of 8 passes for 48 yards during his lone drive.

Following the game, Mendoza expressed accountability for a failed fourth-down scramble, stating, “That is totally my fault, and I let the offense down on that play.” Former Raiders quarterback Derek Carr noted that while Mendoza made mistakes, the performance showed promise and provided a significant learning opportunity regarding defensive blitzes and complex looks.

Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak praised Mendoza’s preparation and speed, describing it as a “solid start.” For the Week 6 matchup against the Buffalo Bills, Mendoza remains on the roster as the second-string quarterback behind veteran starter Kirk Cousins.
