Fernando Ruiz Gómez assumes command of Melilla

Division General Fernando Ruiz Gómez has officially assumed his role as the new Commander General of Melilla during a ceremony at the Alfonso XIII Base. Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles attended the handover of command, which marks the transition from the retiring Luis Cortés Delgado.

During the event, Minister Robles emphasized the strong connection between the Spanish Armed Forces and the autonomous cities, stating that Melilla and Ceuta “are the best of Spain” and “represent us all.” The ceremony was also attended by the Government Delegate in Melilla, Sabrina Moh, and the Commander General of Ceuta, Division General Luis Jesús Fernández Herrero.

Ruiz Gómez previously served as the director of the “Guzmán el Bueno” X Brigade in Córdoba. His appointment follows his promotion to division general, which was approved by the Council of Ministers on October 13.
