Fernando Sastre remains in custody following fatal Porsche crash

A São Paulo court has denied a request for liberty for businessman Fernando Sastre de Andrade Filho, known as the ‘Playboy do Porsche’. Sastre remains in preventive detention following a fatal accident in March 2024.

Sastre is accused of driving a Porsche 911 at 156 km/h in a 50 km/h zone on Avenida Salim Farah Maluf while intoxicated. The collision with a Renault Sandero resulted in the death of Ornaldo da Silva Viana, a 52-year-old ride-share driver, and injuries to a passenger in the Porsche.

Defense lawyers argued that Sastre had complied with all precautionary measures and noted that his company, Sastre Engenharia e Urbanismo, has seen a 74% drop in revenue since his arrest. However, the judge ruled that these economic impacts do not negate the legal grounds for his continued detention. Sastre is scheduled to stand trial before a jury on October 29.
