Fernando Tauber declines ‘sabio platense’ distinction

Fernando Tauber, president of the National University of La Plata (UNLP), has declined a proposal to be named a ‘sabio platense’ (La Plata sage). The initiative, proposed by the Federation of Cultural and Sporting Institutions of La Plata, sought to grant him this historical distinction established in 1942 to honor significant academic and scientific figures.

Tauber requested that the process not proceed with his name, stating that the university’s energy and institutional efforts should be focused on growth and supporting the community during difficult times. Instead, he urged that the distinction be promptly granted to Dr. René Favaloro, as previously discussed in collaborative work between the UNLP and the Federation.
