Fernando Trueba documentary on Chicho Sánchez Ferlosio restored

The documentary ‘Chicho o Mientras el cuerpo aguante (una comedia didáctica)’, directed by Fernando Trueba in 1982, has been restored and re-released in cinemas 44 years after its original debut.

Originally released as ‘Mientras el cuerpo aguante’, the film profiles Chicho Sánchez Ferlosio, a multifaceted artist, poet, and communist militant. The restoration was carried out by ECAM using a recently discovered 16mm original negative and is being distributed by Jonás Trueba.

The film’s history is marked by a famous controversy at the San Sebastián Film Festival, where director Fernando Trueba reportedly threw a bucket of water at critic Diego Galán following a negative review. Unlike traditional biographical documentaries, the film utilizes a non-orthodox approach to capture the personality of the subject.
