Fernando Trueba presents music-driven film ‘Bajañí’

Spanish director Fernando Trueba presented his new film, ‘Bajañí’, out of competition at the San Sebastián International Film Festival. Unlike traditional cinema where music serves the narrative, Trueba designed this project to let music lead the film, placing the camera in service of the musicians and their performances.

The film follows the journey of guitarist Niño Joséle, whose guitar acts as the connective thread through three acts, each set within a different musical universe. Along the way, the film features encounters with various artists, including Caetano Veloso, Ron Carter, Rubén Blades, Kenny Barron, and Mariza. Trueba noted that the film aims to capture the profound silence and concentration that occurs when live music begins to play.
