Fernandópolis police investigate R$ 100,000 electronic fraud

The General Investigation Department (DIG) of Fernandópolis is investigating an electronic fraud scheme that resulted in a loss of approximately R$ 100,000 for a 74-year-old man. The victim was contacted via WhatsApp by individuals posing as financial institution representatives, who claimed there were irregularities regarding a loan on his account.

Under the guise of correcting these supposed errors, the criminals convinced the victim to perform bank transfers. Investigations revealed that the stolen funds were transferred to the accounts of a couple residing in São José do Rio Preto, where the money was subsequently converted into cryptocurrencies to hinder tracking efforts. Police have executed search and seizure warrants at a business and a luxury residential condominium in São José do Rio Preto as part of the ongoing inquiry.
