Fernleigh Park residents oppose Dunns Creek Road routes
Residents of Fernleigh Park are protesting proposed routes for the new Dunns Creek Road, which is intended to connect Tralee or South Jerrabomberra in New South Wales with Canberra. The Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council (QPRC) recently released an options paper detailing eight potential routes, three of which would pass through the Fernleigh Park development.
Local residents expressed concern that the proposed paths could compromise property values and quality of life. One resident, Colleen Krestensen, stated that up to 31 families could lose homes or portions of their properties if the council proceeds with these specific options. Residents noted that a 2015 council decision had previously selected a preferred route away from their homes, which they believed was final.
The proposed road must connect to a preferred connection point at a new roundabout at Isabella Drive in the Australian Capital Territory. Some community members are advocating for alternative solutions, such as widening existing roads, to address traffic congestion without impacting residential properties.
