Fernão Dias Highway bridge collapse kills mother and son

A pedestrian bridge collapsed on the Fernão Dias Highway near Vargem, São Paulo, resulting in the deaths of a mother and son. The victims, identified as 63-year-old Rosangela Carlos Soares Chaves and 40-year-old Douglas Soares Quaresma, were residents of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais.

The accident occurred when a truck carrying a large secondary vehicle collided with the bridge structure. The impact caused the bridge to fall onto the opposite lane, striking a car occupied by the victims. A second truck was also hit by debris, and its driver sustained injuries.

Police arrested the truck driver, 42-year-old Deyvidson Temudo De Oliveira, in flagrante. He faces charges of involuntary manslaughter and involuntary bodily injury while operating a motor vehicle. The Civil Police are continuing their investigation into the exact circumstances of the collision.
