Ferran Adrià and El Bulli featured in new series ‘Gènesi’

The new six-part 3Cat series ‘Gènesi’ explores the history and legacy of the iconic Catalan restaurant El Bulli. Premiering with two episodes at the San Sebastian Film Festival, the production traces the restaurant's trajectory from the 1980s until its closure in 2011.

The series blends historical figures with fictionalized elements. Key real-life figures depicted include celebrity chef Ferran Adrià, portrayed by Miquel Fernández, and his business partner Juli Soler, played by Ivan Massagué. Other notable culinary figures featured include Albert Adrià, Santi Santamaría, and Christian Escribà.

Produced in collaboration with the Government of Catalonia, the series aims to highlight El Bulli’s transformative impact on global haute cuisine and its place within Catalonia’s cultural heritage. While Netflix will handle distribution across Spain, Europe, Latin America, and the U.S., the series was conceived to coincide with Catalonia’s designation as a World Gastronomy Region.
