Ferran Adrià awarded Medalla d’Or de la Generalitat

Renowned chef Ferran Adrià has been awarded the Medalla d’Or de la Generalitat, the highest distinction granted by the Generalitat de Catalunya, recognizing his profound impact on global gastronomy.

Adrià, widely considered a transformative figure in modern cuisine through his work at the legendary restaurant El Bulli, has played a central role in establishing Catalonia as a premier culinary destination. His career has been marked by significant innovation, including the development of deconstruction and spherification techniques that shifted the focus of professional cooking from traditional heat-based methods toward creative research and control.

Reflecting on his journey, Adrià noted the immense personal and financial sacrifices required to pursue his vision. He shared that between 1984 and 1998, he and his wife lived without financial stability while investing fifteen years into a culinary vision that offered no immediate profit. Since moving away from the high-pressure environment of Michelin-starred restaurants, he has dedicated himself to his foundation, exploring fundamental culinary elements such as the use of embers and charcoal.
