Ferrara hospital reports 90 new lymphoma cases annually
In observance of World Lymphoma Awareness Day on September 15, medical professionals at the Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria di Ferrara are highlighting the regional impact and diagnostic advancements for the disease. Antonio Cuneo, Director of the Hematology Unit at Sant’Anna in Ferrara, reports approximately 90 new lymphoma cases annually in the local territory, with the department managing roughly 1,500 patients periodically.
The diagnostic process involves rapid access to specialized services, utilizing collaboration between surgery, pathology, and molecular laboratories for precise identification. Following diagnosis, radiology and nuclear medicine employ CT and PET scans to determine the extent and stage of the lymphoma.
Treatment protocols include chemio-immunotherapy prepared by hospital pharmacy staff, administered in inpatient or day hospital settings, and radiotherapy using advanced technology. Medical teams also provide specialized vaccine consultations and, where possible, measures to preserve reproductive capacity.
