Ferrara hosts 22nd Giostra del Monaco historical reenactment

The 22nd edition of the ‘Giostra del Monaco’ is scheduled to take place in Ferrara from August 27 to September 6. Hosted by the Contrada di San Giacomo at the Baluardo di Santa Maria della Fortezza, the event is a historical reenactment designed to celebrate the city’s Estense history and medieval traditions.

The festival features a medieval camp, historical archery tournaments, and combat demonstrations. Key highlights include reenactments of the Battle of Cassano d’Adda and the Salinguerra, as well as the ‘Giostra equestre del Monaco’, a knightly tournament where riders compete for the title of Paladino Estense.

In addition to cultural preservation, the event serves social purposes, supporting organizations such as Avis to promote blood and plasma donations. The festival is free to the public and includes various gastronomic and musical offerings.
