Ferrari 296 Challenge Stradale rumored to ditch hybrid system for lightweight V6

Reports suggest Ferrari is developing the 296 Challenge Stradale, a track-focused road car that may deviate significantly from the current 296 series philosophy. Unlike the 296 GTB and 296 Speciale, which utilize plug-in hybrid (PHEV) systems, this new model is rumored to abandon hybrid technology entirely in favor of a pure internal combustion engine (ICE) setup.

By removing the electric motors and batteries, Ferrari could reduce the vehicle's dry weight by approximately 170kg, potentially bringing it down to around 1,300kg. To compensate for the loss of electric torque, the 3.0L V6 twin-turbo engine is expected to be tuned to produce roughly 720 horsepower. This approach aims to prioritize driving agility, braking, and cornering performance through a superior power-to-weight ratio.

Prototypes featuring aggressive aerodynamics, including a large rear wing similar to the 296 Challenge race car, have been spotted near Maranello. Unlike many high-performance models, the 296 Challenge Stradale may not be a limited production run, but rather a standard production model available to customers.
