Ferrari admits engine power deficit despite Monza upgrades

Ferrari Team Principal Fred Vasseur has admitted that the Scuderia still lacks 'pure power' compared to Mercedes-powered rivals, despite introducing engine upgrades at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza.

Vasseur noted that while the team can attempt to manipulate energy distribution to compensate on straights, doing so can create a negative spiral in performance. The team is unable to implement further engine hardware upgrades this season, though development continues for 2027. At Monza, Ferrari faced a difficult race; Charles Leclerc was forced to retire following a collision, while Lewis Hamilton finished sixth.

Meanwhile, Mercedes remains confident in its championship lead despite increasing pressure from rivals like McLaren and Ferrari. While Mercedes has not had the fastest car in recent races, the team is planning a major upgrade package for the Malaysian Grand Prix and an engine update following the Azerbaijan Grand Prix to secure both the drivers' and constructors' titles.
