Charles Leclerc cleared for Madrid GP after heavy Monza crash

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc has confirmed he is fit to compete in the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid following a violent 60g crash at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza. Despite experiencing brief vision issues and neck pain immediately after the impact, Leclerc stated that medical examinations have returned positive results.

Due to concerns regarding potential damage to the new ADUO2 power unit sustained during the Monza accident, Ferrari has decided to revert Leclerc to an older-specification engine for the Madrid race. This decision is a precautionary measure to avoid technical anomalies during the debut at the new Madrid circuit. While this may result in a power deficit compared to teammate Lewis Hamilton, who will use the upgraded unit, the team aims to prioritize stability during the initial sessions.

Leclerc also addressed the recent on-track tension with Hamilton at Monza, noting that the two drivers have since met to discuss the incident and have reached an understanding. The crash at Monza also carried significant financial implications, with industry estimates suggesting the damage to the car could cost nearly one million euros.
