Ferrari selects Livorno as operational hub for Hypersail project

Ferrari has selected Livorno, Italy, as the operational hub for its Hypersail project, an ambitious initiative to develop a 100-foot flying foiling monohull designed for ocean sailing. The project will be based within the facilities of Azimut Yachts, which has entered into a technical alliance as the Official Yachting Partner.

The new hub in Livorno will serve as a comprehensive project headquarters, featuring dedicated offices for engineers and the shore team, specialized laboratories for hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical components, 3D printing facilities, and athletic preparation areas. The location provides direct access to the Tyrrhenian Sea, which is essential for the upcoming sea trials and testing phases.

As part of this collaboration, Azimut Yachts will develop a custom towboat, a modified Fly 72 equipped with 4,000 horsepower, to support the Hypersail prototype during initial testing. This vessel is designed to pull the prototype to approximately 30 knots to facilitate the first takeoff and foiling trials. The proximity of Livorno to Ferrari’s headquarters in Maranello will allow for continuous technical exchange between the maritime team and Ferrari’s engineering and design departments.
