Ferrari Hypersail oceanic monohull set for Tyrrhenian Sea launch by spring 2027

Ferrari’s first ocean‑going foiling monohull, the 30‑metre Hypersail, is nearing completion in a workshop on the outskirts of Pisa. Led by project head Enrico Voltolini, the vessel is being built with ultra‑light carbon‑fiber construction and a strict weight‑saving regime, using only six kilograms of filler for the entire hull. The design targets speeds close to 100 km/h (55 knots of apparent wind) and will be powered by onboard solar panels for full energy self‑sufficiency.

Key milestones include the painting and deck work already finished, the mast departing New Zealand by ship in mid‑August, sails arriving in Genoa in early September and appendages ready by the first week of October. The boat is scheduled to enter the Tyrrhenian Sea in spring 2027. An 8‑to‑12‑person crew will operate the sails manually, living in lightweight carbon‑fiber bunks and using minimal‑weight facilities designed for extreme conditions.

The project serves both as a high‑performance racing platform and as a test‑bed for aerodynamic, material and energy‑management technologies that Ferrari may later apply to its road cars.
