Ferrari prepares major technical updates to close gap with rivals
Ferrari is preparing a significant technical update package for the SF-26 to address performance gaps in the second half of the Formula 1 season. After failing to secure a podium since the Spa race, the team has struggled to keep pace with rivals, particularly McLaren, which has made rapid aerodynamic progress.
Rather than rushing incomplete updates, Ferrari opted to delay certain developments to ensure more substantial gains. While only a portion of the planned floor updates were introduced at Zandvoort, a more comprehensive evolution of the floor and other aerodynamic components is expected to arrive at the United States Grand Prix in Austin.
Additionally, Ferrari is considering power unit changes. Driver Charles Leclerc may receive a new engine as early as the Baku Grand Prix, which could result in a grid penalty. A final decision regarding the engine and the timing of the penalty will be made in Azerbaijan based on performance assessments.
