Ferrari rolls out hotter engine and new turbo for Austrian Grand Prix

Ferrari is set to introduce a second update to its 2026 power unit, featuring a redesigned turbo scheduled after the summer break. The first upgrade, planned for the Austrian Grand Prix, will run the engine at a higher temperature of 110 °C using a steel‑alloy cylinder head and a fuel with a higher calorific value, promising greater efficiency, more power and smaller radiators.

The FIA has granted permission for two ADUO (Additional Development) evolutions after measuring a performance deficit of over 4 % compared with the Red Bull‑Ford power unit. Ferrari hopes the hotter engine and later turbo redesign will close the gap to Red Bull and Mercedes, while other teams such as McLaren are also testing aerodynamic tweaks for the Red Bull Ring circuit.
