Ferrari to develop new power unit to address 2026 F1 ‘emergency’

Ferrari is reportedly working to mitigate challenges regarding its 2026 Formula 1 power unit, which has been described as an ‘emergency project’. Despite early season successes, including podiums for Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, the Maranello-based team has struggled to maintain competitive pace against rivals.

Internal difficulties, including the departure of key figures Wolf Zimmerman and Lars Schmidt, have reportedly hindered the development process. While the team utilized ADUO upgrades to attempt to close the gap, Team Principal Fred Vasseur admitted the team lacked ‘pure pace’ compared to competitors. Consequently, Vasseur indicated that the 2027 power unit will be a completely new engine to address these developmental shortcomings.
