Ferrari unveils 296 GT Modificata track-only supercar
Ferrari has unveiled the 296 GT Modificata, a track-only vehicle derived from the 296 GT3 Evo. Unlike standard racing cars, this model is not intended for official FIA or IMSA sanctioned competitions, allowing engineers to bypass the ‘Balance of Performance’ restrictions that typically limit engine output to ensure parity between different racing models.
By removing these regulatory constraints, Ferrari has significantly increased the vehicle's performance. The 2.9-liter V6 twin-turbo engine now produces approximately 720 to 730 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque. Key mechanical upgrades include revised turbochargers, crankshaft, camshafts, intake systems, and intercoolers, alongside a reinforced fuel system and a new low-pressure pump.
The car features redesigned aerodynamics, including a larger front splitter, new air intakes, and a prominent fixed rear wing to enhance stability and grip. Ferrari estimates the Modificata could lap the Fiorano test track up to three seconds faster than the base 296 GT3 Evo. The vehicle is designed for clients within the Club Competizioni GT program, which includes access to organized track events.
