Ferrari introduces minor power‑unit upgrade for Austrian Grand Prix

Ferrari will bring a modest power‑unit update to the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring, using one of the two ADUO (Additional Development and Upgrade Opportunities) credits granted by the FIA for the 2026 season. The package focuses on a "hot engine" concept – raising cylinder operating temperature from 100 °C to 110 °C and using a higher‑calorific‑value fuel – and includes minor aerodynamic refinements. Enzo Gualtieri, Ferrari’s Power‑Unit Technical Director, said the update is "relatively minor" and will not by itself change the competitive order, but it demonstrates the team’s continuous development mindset. Ferrari remains second in the Constructors’ Championship with 190 points, 72 points behind Mercedes, while Lewis Hamilton sits second in the Drivers’ standings with 115 points, 41 points behind leader Kimi Antonelli. A larger upgrade, centred on a new turbocharger, is planned for after the summer break. Team Principal Frederic Vasseur stressed realistic expectations, stating the goal is to put together a linear weekend rather than expect a single breakthrough. The upgrade is expected to add only a few horsepower (around five to ten) and is seen as a step toward narrowing the performance gap to Mercedes.
