Ferret health requirements regarding diet and temperature
Ferrets require specific environmental and dietary conditions to maintain health. As obligate carnivores, their digestive systems are designed for animal protein and cannot efficiently process plant-based fillers, high carbohydrates, or high levels of sodium found in processed foods like hot dogs. Consuming such foods can lead to dehydration, sodium poisoning, obesity, and metabolic issues.
Additionally, ferrets are highly susceptible to heatstroke due to their thick fur and lack of sweat glands. Temperatures exceeding 85°F (29.4°C) are considered dangerous and potentially lethal. Owners must monitor humidity and ventilation to prevent overheating and heat-related illnesses.
