Ferro Invest drives battery‑storage rollout for renewable power in Macedonia

Ferro Invest has become a pioneer in Macedonia’s energy transition by installing the country’s first commercial battery‑storage system in 2025. The company reports having deployed more than 250 MWh of battery capacity for its own plants and client power stations, with an additional 70 MWh under construction.

In a panel hosted by Mako Sigre at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies in Skopje, Todor Angjusev, manager of the Energy Management System unit at Ferro Invest, stressed that battery systems are essential for fully exploiting renewable generation. He highlighted their technical complexity—requiring careful design, software integration, compliance with grid rules and market mechanisms, and daily operational management.

Angjusev also noted the economic advantage: batteries store surplus solar power produced at low‑price daytime hours and discharge it during peak‑price night periods, boosting revenues for generators while relieving the Macedonian grid from overload risk.
