Ferrol association demands universal accessibility for waste collectors
The Sociocultural Association ASCM is calling for unanimous political support in the Ferrol City Council regarding a motion to ensure universal accessibility in the renewal of waste collectors.
ASCM argues that simply replacing old containers with a few accessible models is insufficient. They demand that new waste collection systems be designed for autonomous and safe use by all citizens, emphasizing that their placement must be free of obstacles, uneven surfaces, or barriers. The association maintains that accessibility should be integrated into the planning phase of public works to avoid the need for costly future adaptations.
The request coincides with recent legislative reforms in the Spanish Congress regarding disability and dependency laws, which ASCM notes reinforce the fundamental rights of personal autonomy and universal accessibility.
