Ferrol begins 5.7 million euro rural sanitation project

The Xunta de Galicia has launched the first phase of a sanitation and purification network improvement project in the rural areas of Ferrol. The total investment for the project exceeds 5.7 million euros, with the company Extraco executing the initial phase (Phase 1A) for 4.7 million euros.

The current works focus on the Doniños, Valón, and A Cabana areas, aiming to provide direct service to approximately 1,350 residents. The infrastructure includes 13.5 kilometers of new collectors, 4,000 meters of pumping lines, and seven pumping stations required to navigate the local topography. While the official timeframe for this phase is two years, local authorities are working to accelerate the process to connect residents as early as next year.

This initiative is part of a broader, multi-phase plan to connect the rural population of Ferrol with the municipal sanitation network, eventually benefiting more than 4,420 inhabitants. Future phases are expected to extend services to San Xurxo, Esmelle, Covas, and A Graña-Brión. The project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (Feder) under the Galicia Feder 2021-2027 Program.
