Italy hires 14 Tunisian workers under FS Group's Piano Mattei programme

Fourteen Tunisian nationals have begun work with Trenitalia after completing a training programme in Tunisia that included over 400 hours of Italian language study, 150 hours of technical instruction and safety courses. Their placements, in support roles for railway services across several Italian depots, were announced at the “Welcome to Italy – Piano Mattei Tunisia” ceremony in Rome’s FS Villa Patrizi headquarters. FS Group executives Gian Luca Orefice (Chief People, Culture & Transformation), Francesca Stacchiotti (HR Director) and Giuseppe Inchingolo (Chief Corporate Affairs) highlighted the project as a bridge between Italy and Africa, noting related initiatives in Egypt and Morocco.

The programme is part of the broader Piano Mattei strategy to foster skill exchange and employment links between Europe and North‑African countries. In a separate note, a European prosecutor has opened an investigation into suspected fraud involving PNrr funds tied to unrelated projects, seizing €20 million, but this does not affect the training initiative.
