Greece weather disruptions cause school closures and ferry delays

Severe weather in Greece has led to significant disruptions in transportation and education. In Crete, several municipalities have suspended in-person schooling to ensure the safety of students and staff. Specifically, all schools in the Amari municipality are closed, while in the Mylopotamos municipality, schools and nurseries in Kouklonas and Zoniana will remain closed through Tuesday, October 6, due to road damage and water supply issues. Schools in Agio Ioanni and Makry Gialos are also closed.

Maritime services are seeing a gradual recovery. Following the lifting of sailing bans, ferry services from the ports of Piraeus and Rafina are resuming, though restrictions remain in place for Lavrio. While conventional vessels are operating in the Saronic Gulf, passengers are advised to check with companies for potential schedule changes. In Crete, ferry services to Heraklion and Souda are expected to resume their regular schedules.

Local authorities continue to manage the aftermath of the storms, focusing on repairing damaged road networks and water infrastructure to restore normal operations.
