Ferry Tropical Wave partially sinks at La Ceiba pier

The ferry Tropical Wave, operated by Galaxy Wave, partially sank at the La Ceiba coastal pier on Tuesday following a routine trip from Roatán. The vessel became immobilized and tilted after striking rocks and sand in the dock area, causing a hull breach that allowed water to enter.

All passengers and crew members were successfully evacuated to safety without reported injuries. The company reported that safety protocols were immediately implemented, and the Naval Force assisted in the emergency response.

The captain and the operating company have attributed the accident to poor dredging conditions at the pier. The company has called on authorities to prioritize dredging the dock, which serves as a vital connection for the Bay Islands and the La Mosquitia region. While the Tropical Wave remains partially submerged, the company stated that maritime operations continue normally using the Galaxy Wave vessel.
