Ferryboat São Domingos VI sinks near Barcarena, Brazil

The ferryboat São Domingos VI sank near Vila do Conde in the Barcarena region of Pará while traveling from Belém to Breves in the Marajó archipelago.

Eleven people, consisting of four crew members and seven passengers, were rescued by another navigation company that provided assistance at the scene. There are no reports of missing persons.

The incident resulted in significant material losses, including the destruction of vehicles such as motorcycles and automobiles, as well as various goods. Authorities are investigating the cause of the shipwreck, with preliminary suspicions pointing toward the vessel being overloaded. The intensity of the tides in the Vila do Conde region during this period is also being considered as a potential factor.

The Brazilian Navy, through the Captaincy of the Ports of Eastern Amazon, is expected to lead the official investigation into the circumstances of the sinking.
