Fertility specialist addresses infertility misconceptions and care access

Fertility specialist Dr. Temeka Zore is addressing widespread misconceptions regarding infertility, which the World Health Organization has classified as a medical disease. While infertility affects one in six couples, access to diagnostic and treatment services remains unequal across different demographics.

Dr. Zore clarified several common myths, noting that while egg quality and quantity tend to decline with age, a low ovarian reserve in younger women does not automatically indicate a quality issue. She also emphasized that egg freezing is not a guarantee of future pregnancy, regardless of age or quantity of eggs frozen. Additionally, she debunked the idea that exercise causes infertility and stated that there is no supplement or ‘magic pill’ proven to significantly improve egg quality.

Addressing the psychological impact, Dr. Zore noted that many patients feel personal blame for infertility, stressing that it is a biological condition rather than a personal failure. She also highlighted that infertility is not exclusively an aging-related issue, as younger individuals can face biological challenges to conception.
