Fertilizer delays cause decline in paddy yields in MADA region
Delays in fertilizer supplies are causing a decline in paddy yields for farmers in the Muda Agricultural Development Authority (MADA) region. Aswadil Khairi Che Omar, Chairman of the MADA Young Farmers Association, stated that the delays are due to human factors rather than weather or natural disasters.
Farmers have expressed support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s directive for the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (SPRM) to investigate the matter. There are calls for a detailed investigation to identify any individuals responsible for the supply issues.
Aswadil Khairi also urged the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) to review fertilizer supply mechanisms. He suggested that immediate action should be taken if companies awarded tenders fail to meet their contractual obligations, noting that irregular planting schedules severely impact both crop weight and farmer income.
