Ferveret's Water-Free Adaptive Phase Cooling System for AI Data Centres

Ferveret, a San Jose startup founded by MIT researchers Reza Azizian and Matteo Bucci, is commercialising an Adaptive Phase Cooling (APC) technology that immerses servers in a specialised liquid. The system employs a subcooled‑boiling process that creates very small bubbles which detach frequently, accelerating heat transfer and eliminating the need for water.

The company says APC delivers about a 15% efficiency gain over leading liquid‑cooling solutions and can generate up to 35% more AI model tokens per unit of power. With AI driving rapid expansion of data‑centre capacity—roughly one‑third of current data‑centre electricity is used for cooling—Ferveret’s water‑free approach targets a major sustainability challenge. The modular boxes are being tested with partners such as CleanSpark, FuriosaAI and Switch, and Ferveret is part of Nvidia’s Inception startup program.
