Fes City Council session disrupted by protest and resignation
A session of the Fes City Council was disrupted on Tuesday, October 6, following a provocative gesture by Ali Boumehdi, a council member from the Democratic Forces Front. Boumehdi entered the meeting carrying a handbag featuring a logo referencing the “Sak Party,” a term linked to previous election fraud allegations in Tangier.
In response to what they termed “provocative behavior,” members of the Authenticity and Modernity Party withdrew from the session. During his intervention, Boumehdi leveled serious accusations against the Council President, Abdessalam El Baqqali, regarding the management of financial and administrative files. Boumehdi subsequently announced his immediate resignation from the council.
Following the incident, the regional leadership of the Democratic Forces Front suspended Boumehdi’s membership. The party criticized his actions as “irresponsible exhibitionism” and an attempt to create “fake buzz,” stating that such conduct is inconsistent with political ethics and the dignity of elected institutions. His file has been referred to a regional disciplinary committee for further action.
