Luís Montenegro marks PSD political rentrée at Festa do Pontal

The Social Democratic Party (PSD) marked its political 'rentrée' with the 50th anniversary of the Festa do Pontal in Quarteira, Algarve. Prime Minister and PSD leader Luís Montenegro delivered a speech focusing on government results, the execution of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), and strategic interests such as the state's acquisition of shares in REN and the privatization of TAP.

Montenegro criticized what he termed “modern censorship,” arguing that media focus on controversies obscures significant government achievements. He defended the administration's work, stating the executive works “24 hours a day, seven days a week” despite recent controversies involving the Ministers of Education and Internal Administration.

The speech drew sharp criticism from opposition parties. Chega leader André Ventura accused the Prime Minister of being “disconnected from the lives of Portuguese people” and ignoring serious suspicions regarding the Minister of Internal Administration. The Socialist Party (PS) and Livre also criticized the address, with Livre describing it as an “elogio da banalidade” (praise of banality) from an “exhausted government” that lacks new ideas for the country.
