Festival de Brasília showcases virtual reality and animation
The 59th edition of the Festival de Brasília do Cinema Brasileiro is incorporating new technologies, including a virtual reality showcase titled ‘Realidade Virtual: Imersão em Persona’. As part of this initiative, the Senate’s ‘Visita 360’ project is presenting films that utilize VR to immerse viewers in the political trajectories of key Brazilian figures, including Abdias Nascimento, Darcy Ribeiro, and Eunice Michiles.
In addition to technological innovations, the festival features diverse cinematic works such as the animated feature ‘Ana, en Passant’. Directed by Fernanda Salgado, the film uses mixed animation techniques, specifically rotoscoping, to tell the story of a Franco-Brazilian woman searching for her roots in Belo Horizonte. The production involved approximately 60 animators, highlighting a collective approach to authorship in contemporary Brazilian animation.
