Festival delle Nazioni celebrates Germanic musical heritage

The 59th edition of the Festival delle Nazioni will take place from August 27 to September 11, centered in Città di Castello and throughout the Upper Tiber Valley in the Umbria-Tuscany region. This year's program pays tribute to Germany and Germanic-speaking countries, exploring three centuries of musical history through composers such as Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Mahler, Schönberg, Weill, and Korngold.

The festival is part of a three-year cultural itinerary dedicated to major European traditions, following a previous focus on France and preceding a 2027 celebration of the festival's 60th anniversary. The event will feature chamber music, interdisciplinary performances, and original productions held in theaters, churches, and museums.

Ramin Bahrami will serve as the artist in residence, opening the festival on August 27 with ‘Beethoven al Chiaro di Luna’ at the Church of San Domenico. Other scheduled performances include works by Bach and various ensembles such as the Salzburg String Trio and the Wiener Kammersymphonie. The festival aims to strengthen the international profile of the region and use culture to promote the Upper Tiber Valley.
